On The M List: Trusted Chest Binder Resources and More for Trans Youth

When a Mamahood member inquired about chest binders for a young trans boy, our community responded with an array of valuable suggestions. Inspired by this, we've put together a list that not only includes chest binders but also a variety of supportive resources for trans and gender-diverse youth.

These resources are listed alphabetically to make it easy for you to skim through and find what you need, or to check if we've included a resource you know about. From inclusive summer camps to custom gear, each entry offers something special, and you can discover more on their M List profiles.

If you're looking for a specific item or just interested in learning about the resources available, this list is here to help.

Camp Indigo - Be a Kid!

Camp Indigo was founded on the belief that trans and gender diverse kids deserve a 'normal' summer day camp experience. When so much of a child's life is based on educating others and trying to find their place in the world, Camp Indigo is what childhood is meant to be: fun, friend-centered, and full of wonder.

For Them

The pursuit of wellness should reflect the diversity that blossoms in our ever-evolving world. We believe that there is nothing more powerful or more beautiful than human-beings existing as their most expansive and authentic selves. To us, this is nature in full bloom. And like nature, this evolution should be nurtured, marveled and celebrated.

gc2b

Founded in 2015, gc2b is a trans-owned company based in Maryland. gc2b's founder, CEO, and designer -- a Black and Latinx trans man -- saw that the only binding options were uncomfortable and inadequate compression shirts designed for cis men. As an Industrial Design graduate, he used his experience in product design and his background in textiles to provide accessible, comfortable, and safer binding options designed by trans people, for trans people. gc2b binders were the first garments designed and patented specifically for gender-affirming chest binding.

“My (small) 12 year old trans son buys his binders at gc2b. The XS fits well. Everything else we have tried was too big.” -Amal Harrati / Mamahood Member

Rainbow Families Bay Area

Rainbow Families is a parent-run group, working to create a community to support our transgender and gender diverse kids.  We help families connect with one another to support each other and give kids a place to be themselves. We are parents who want a place to talk about our kids and the unique issues that they face being transgender or gender diverse. We wanted a community to talk to other parents who have had the same questions as as –  how do I know this isn’t just a phase? How do we talk to the teacher and other parents in our kid’s class?  What did you do about the swim days at summer camp? We wanted our kids to be able to play and hang out with other kids like them – to be able to play or talk and just be themselves!

UCSF Child and Adolescent Gender Center

The UCSF Child and Adolescent Gender Center (CAGC) offers comprehensive medical and psychological care, as well as advocacy and legal support, to transgender, nonbinary and gender-diverse children and adolescents. We bring together experts from both UCSF and elsewhere to promote gender health and positive outcomes for children and adolescents exploring gender identity and expression. The CAGC accepts new patients ages 3 to 17. Before the onset of puberty, our care focuses strictly on social and emotional development, and we don’t offer gender-affirming medical treatments. Once a patient reaches puberty, gender-affirming medical treatments may be considered following a thorough mental health assessment by a gender specialist.
