June Care: Childcare for families, by families

Gretchen Salyer, Founder and CEO of June Care

Meet Gretchen Salyer, Founder and CEO of June Care.

As a former full-time working mom, full-time SAHM, and now a WFH mompreneur, Salyer saw there were always childcare gaps where she and other parents were scrambling at the last minute to get coverage. On the flip side, when she chose to stay home with her kids, she missed an opportunity to contribute to her family's finances.

Luckily, she met other parents in the same boat (some working, some stay-at-home), and they started coordinating their schedules to create their own little network of childcare centered around paid playdates.  It was transformational for everyone involved and gave her the ah-ha moment she needed to launch The June Care Company last August.

She wanted to enable parents everywhere to find this same connected childcare experience from which she’d so greatly benefitted. We think what she’s doing is revolutionary and are cheering her on!

June Care is now a quickly-growing platform that connects parents who need childcare with qualified host parents (typically stay-at-home moms) who can care for their kids.

The beauty of the June Care model is that it’s an opportunity for neighbors and communities to come together in support of each other - whether that’s allowing a mom to earn an income while parenting (like Albina, below), or helping a mom who needs childcare to easily find a premium, very low-ratio childcare solution, right in her own neighborhood (like Mackenzie, below).

Albina and her two kids with whom she’s able to stay home as a host for June Care.

Meet Albina.

Albina is a stay-at-home with two kids, ages 3 and 1. Albina was a former childcare professional and teacher who was looking for opportunities to connect with other families in her community and earn some income for her family.  When Albina found June Care, she was immediately drawn to the concept.

"June Care is all about community and connecting parents with each other who eventually become like family.  It is like having a family member in the neighborhood who can help you with your kids when you need it!."

By hosting June Care, Albina is also saving money on childcare she might otherwise need to spend to pursue other income opportunities, but can still use her love of teaching with the children she hosts.

"For me, hosting a playdate feels like a double win; the parents get the care they need and my kids get playmates to play with and make friends.  It's also a great way to make an income, considering that us stay-at-home moms often sacrifice our income by staying home with our children."

Mackenzie and her one-year-old who receives part-time care from mom hosts via June Care.

Meet Mackenzie.

Mackenzie and her family recently moved to San Francisco from Utah. Mackenzie was looking for part-time childcare for her one year old daughter. As someone who didn’t know the area too well, using a mom network made a lot of sense to Mackenzie. She wanted her daughter to socialize with other kids, and have a mom to take care of her. Mackenzie uses June Care mostly to get work done, but will occasionally use it for running errands by herself too. Mackenzie loves June Care because of the moms and the village.

“I feel way more laid back when it's another mom looking after my daughter. I know they've been through it all too and they know what to do. I get so much advice from the other moms, and it's such a great support system. Being new to the city, I also love that I'm meeting other moms through June Care.”
